John Martyn moved to London from Glasgow in the mid s. He made his initial recorded impact in , at the age of 19, with his debut album London Conversation. He then quickly became an integral part of the British music scene, incorporating Folk, Blues, and Jazz into his unique sound.

The original CD - even though it was - was always underwhelming - especially on tracks like the lovely "Call Me" and "The Cure" - and of course the gorgeous "Jack The Lad". Well this DALLAS SIMPSON remaster is about twice as good - not overbearing - but now imbibed with the muscle the music always needed/5(7).

I’m Jack the Lad I’m always Jack the Lad I’m Jack the Lad, always Jack the Lad. It’s a good day for running It’s a good day to learn just how to stay It’s a good day for moving on It’s a good day for just walking away. I’m Jack the Lad, call me Jack the Lad They call me Jack the Lad My name is Jack the Lad. I got skin as thick.

"Jack the Lad" was the single released, and, along with "Annie Says" and the aching "Call Me," they show him entering the s in fine form. The title song had a long gestation, originally recorded for 's Grace and Danger under the title "Running up the Harbour.".
